Remembering County Fairs

Complete Kit:   CF103 $300

There was a time in a more rural America when the fair offered the opportunity for days off from work to show off a year's work raising animals, sewing, crafting, preserving, baking. A time to learn about new things, to play games, to see friends and neighbors. Recapture that time. Consider working on a project for next year's fair. Plan a field trip. With this kit, everyone can go to the fair!

Remembering County Fairs complete kit comprises:

Media Presentation on VHS Video. "Step Right Up... to a Blue Ribbon Fair" takes a stroll through a recent county fair, visiting the animal and commercial exhibits, the projects, the rides and games, and special events, with special attention given to the fair food. (20 minutes)

CD with Guide in Binder. Sing-along songs: "Our State Fair," "Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis" (at the 1904 World's Fair) and "Oh, Dear, What Can the Matter Be?" ( Johnny's so long at the fair.). Then, merry-go-round music for the young at heart.

25 Booklets. A Fair Booklet  in large print includes pictures, photographs, poems, quotes, and the three sing-along songs.

Skit. "A Fair Day for Food," a short semi-humorous skit for two characters (and we do mean characters).   Three scripts in large print.

Scented Stickers. "An Aromatic Adventure at the Fair" uses a script and 50 scented stickers on cards to help participants imagine following their noses through a modern fair. Ten each of strawberry, lemon, peach, flower and pickle.

Picture Set. A Pretty Fair Picture Set, 12 photographs from the Library of Congress, on card stock with large-print questions.  Scenes from across the country in the 30's and 40's will  prompt discussion.

Things to Touch. Includes a bumper sticker to advertise the fair; an art print of Pieter Brueghel's "The Fair" depicting a 17th century fair, with many of the same activities offered to fairgoers today; ribbons (embossed with First through Fourth Place and Judge) to use in judging exhibits at your program, or just to feel and talk about; and a poster of shiny foil to use in announcing your program or to bring back memories of fair advertising.

Manual. Suggestions for using all of the kit pieces, scripts, piano accompaniments, ideas for other fair programs using local resources, and a list of related resources. (97 perky pages)

Kit bag. Holds everything together in a convenient carrying case of navy blue and yellow vinyl. Includes window pocket and luggage tag labels.
