Remembering the Fifties

Complete Kit:   FI105 $300

The decade that brought us babies and the Korean War and TV dinners and babies and civil rights and Tupperware and babies and Joe McCarthy and McDonald’s and babies and Scrabble and Elvis and teen-agers…(and babies).

We were rockin’ and rollin’ at Bi-Folkal as we put together these pictures, music, news events and family stories to bring back memories of the fifties for everyone who was there and to help explain the Ike Age to those who weren't.

Remembering the Fifties complete kit comprises:

Two Media Presentations on DVD with 12-page Guide in Binder.  In “The Fifties, Family-Style” the decade is explored through news photos and family photos. The segments are drawn together through narration and the sounds of the fifties that go along with the images. (22 minutes) There is a separate television news feature, "Meet the Inventor of Paint by Number." (7 minutes)  Both  programs are closed captioned.

Sing-Along Songs and Reminiscence on CD with Guide in Binder.   Five singers and a piano invite your group to sing along with five songs: “It’s Howdy Doody Time,” “Rock Around the Clock,” “Good Night, Irene,” “Happy Trails to You,” and anti-test bomb lyrics to the tune of “She’ll be Comin’ ’Round the Mountain When She Comes.” Then a reminiscence is titled, "What Life Was Like in the Frantic Fifties."

25 Booklets. Hi-Fi Hits includes the sing-along songs on the CD in large, easy-to-read type. The songs are transposed into lower keys for older voices.  Plus Fifties slang, "How to Be a Good Wife" from a high school home economics textbook,  and a list of popular TV shows.

Actiphile. Photocopy masters for a dozen activities, including a skit, a timeline, crossword puzzle, recipes, Paint Ike by Number, and more, all designed to involve people.

Picture Set. Fads & Fashions includes 12 large-format historical photos on cardstock with questions to prompt memories of weddings, vacations, television, games, hula hoops, and Tupperware parties.

Things to Touch.
A movie star paper doll (with the scent of Coca-Cola), baseball cards (that smell like bubble gum), actual catalog pages from the fifties, art prints, a Slinky, and an Elvis ’45 that will really play.

Manual with programming suggestions, discussion questions, resource lists and a chapter on using the kit for intergenerational programs. (126 keen pages)

Kit bag. Sturdy and roomy bag for easy storage, and way too deluxe to be called a gym bag, ours is a “James” bag. Includes all window pocket label and luggage tag.
